On Wednesday January 29th, the JV boys basketball team took on the Hillsdale Knights. It was their 7th league game and our Athletic Director Advisory Committee (ADAC) Game of The Week. The panthers come out of the gates hot thanks to a handful of three pointers by #55 Zaden Martin and #25 Carson Robenault finishing the first quarter up 18-10. The second quarter was a back and forth struggle with the panthers going into the locker room at halftime with a 26-18 lead. Unfortunately, the Knights were able to claw their way back into the game finishing the 3rd quarter ahead of the panthers with a score of 39-36. Despite the loss of their lead, the panthers still played with high intensity. This was best showcased late in the third quarter by #13 Kieran Loftis’s brutal chase down block in transition. In the end though, the panthers would lose only their second league game by a score of 52-56.
Coach Philipopoulos described the team’s preparation for their matchup against Hillsdale as just another normal week of practice. Coach P praised the team’s rebounding as well as their outside shooting as they managed to hit a total of 8 from three point range. But, as is often the case in closely contested matchups, Coach P ultimately attributed the loss to the panther’s costly turnovers.
Freshman Zaden Martin made 5 of the panthers’ 8 three pointers in route to a total of 19 from the floor, making him the ADAC Player of The Game. He credited the panthers’ success to their high intensity throughout the game, and in addressing the outcome, Zaden acknowledged Hillsdale’s talent as the primary reason for the loss. In the coming weeks, the team is looking to learn from their experience in such a high intensity and closely contested game to help them finish the season strong.
